Things in my life that refill my glass of wellness:
playing and petting Lucinda (above), yoga, friends+family, knitting, going on walks in historic Hudson (my new hometown, cooking, finding morel mushrooms (it's almost hunting time!), the be good tanyas, taking a glorious shower...the list goes on.
What refills your glass of wellness?
So often, our lives can become dictated by the "have to do's". We make lists, we multi-task and even divide the list into deadlines like asap, today, tomorrow and maybe sometime soon. Even positive, life-affirming things can become scheduled, and enter into the realm of the have-to-do's. I'm in a meditation class which we have homework to do readings, seated meditation, and supine meditations to deepen and compliment our class teachings. Being the excited and passionate person I am, I dove in headfirst (and headstrong per usual) giving 110%. My point: sometimes we don't have 110% to give. Sometimes, even the life-affirming can become reappropriated into a have-to. I feel like there's a elegant and delicate balance that we all strike through our days, with the have-to's and the want-to's. Day by day. Moment by moment.
Svadhyaya, one of the niyamas (observances) within yoga, can be intrepreted as self-study and self-inquiry. Use svadhyaya throughout your day...are you balancing the self-care along with the have-to's? Where does the scale need to tip more to?
Trust in your own discernment. Just yesterday, my wise yogi sister said, "You're only as good to anyone else as you are first, to yourself."
PS: Lucinda is digging a hole. She plays and sleeps in the hole. She knows no have-tos.
