I'm sure we've all noticed how we feel inherently better most times after yoga. We're more self-aware, specifically attuned to our physical bodies in newfound detail, and our minds are calmer and clearer...these are often the benefits of our practice.
The roots of the asana or physical postures of yoga were inspired in classical yoga as means for the bodies of boys learning monastic studies to become quiet enough to meditate. Young indian monks developed asana so that they could meditate.
I am taking a wonderful meditation class that is inspiring me to try registering how often I am 'thinking' as I do other things...which it turns out, is all the time! Our yoga, and our meditation practices root us to the present moment, which then can transcend our practice on the mat, and help us move more mindfully off the mat.
Our teacher Jean says the moments you catch yourself, and say, 'thinking', this is mindfulness. Try it and tell me how it goes!
